HISTORY

It is not just a coincidence that carpentry courses were established in this place near St. Joseph Church, which appears to the right in the pictures, in memory and blessing of St. Joseph the Carpenter. These courses are concerned with teaching carpentry to Armenian refugee orphans, and are held in the Kamel Haj Zahir building, located near the Reda Building, on our way to the Church of the Annunciation. In this same location, the studio of artist Elias Akla takes us on a journey through time. This historical picture that we see before us represents a moment more than a century ago, after the end of Ottoman rule. According to Riad Zoabi, a Nazarene carpenter, there were an estimated 350 carpenters in Nazareth in 1970, which highlights the historical importance of this place and the carpentry courses that take place there.

Elias Akleh art studio located at the throbbing heart at the old city of Nazareth, in an authentic Nazarene building, few steps from the annunciation church.

Founded in 2016, the studio basically displays the works of Elias Akleh  which basically bother themes of humanity and nature.
